Moldova intends to ensure the share of renewable energy in final energy consumption at 27% by 2030.
This is included in the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan for 2025-2040, which the Ministry of Energy has published for public comment. The document provides a roadmap for achieving the country's decarbonization goals. This plan was developed with the support of the European Union within the framework of the Program “Eliminating the Consequences of the Energy Crisis in Moldova”, implemented by UNDP in Moldova, and sets targets for renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions. The document represents a legal obligation of Moldova and concerns only obligations in relation to the territory controlled by the constitutional authorities. Thus, by 2030, Moldova intends to ensure the share of renewable energy in final energy consumption at 27%; maintain growth in primary energy consumption at the level of 3,000 thousand tons of oil equivalent and final energy consumption at the level of 2,800 thousand tons of oil equivalent; reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 68.6% compared to 1990. National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan for 2025-2040 is structured along the 5 dimensions of the Energy Union and describes public policies and investments that are expected to achieve the goals set in each of these dimensions: energy security; domestic energy market; energy efficiency; decarbonization; research, innovation and competitiveness. The document has also been sent to the Energy Community Secretariat for approval and should be approved this summer. The plan can be found on the website particip.gov.md (https://t.ly/921ES), and public discussions with interested parties will begin on February 16. // 09.02.2024 – InfoMarket
