The Energy Community Secretariat welcomed the adoption by Moldova of important amendments to the Natural Gas Law.
As noted its his message, in particular, the Parliament of Moldova, at its last plenary meeting in 2023 on December 28, adopted amendments to the Natural Gas Law, which further bring Moldova into compliance with the most important aspects of the energy legislation of the European Union. “The legislation ends the previous practice of charging customers wishing to switch suppliers exit fees for deviations accumulated by the universal service provider, and also lifts the ban on trading and supply licences. It also includes significant improvements to security of supply and transmission system operator separation. The amendment also strengthens Moldova's strategic natural gas reserves, which must account for a minimum of 15% of Moldova's annual consumption. These reserves will be stored in storage facilities located on the territory of other Energy Community members and will help Moldova ensure a stable supply of natural gas. Overall, the amendments represent an important step forward in further improving Moldova's impressive experience in harmonization with European legislation, which was reflected in the Secretariat's earlier report on Moldova's achievements,” the Energy Community Secretariat said in a statement. // 04.01.2024 — InfoMarket
