Moldova will take measures to accelerate the implementation of the project for the construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power line, financed by the World Bank.

This was discussed during a working meeting that members of the Electricity System Development Project Implementation Team of the United Energy Projects Implementation and Monitoring Unit (UCIPE) held with World Bank social and environmental experts who are on a visit to Chisinau. During the meeting, it was necessary to assess the progress in fulfilling social and environmental requirements within the framework of the Electricity System Development Project being implemented in Moldova. The parties discussed the Report on the assessment of the impact on the environment and social environment of a specific facility, the Resettlement Action Plan, as well as the Report on solving problems to meet the requirements of the population from which land is expropriated for the construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power line. During the discussions, UCIPE representatives informed the WB experts about the progress in implementing activities aimed at the social and environmental aspects of the project, as well as about the priorities for the next period. The parties agreed on the importance and necessity of ensuring effective communication with the population in the context of the land acquisition procedure for the construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power transmission line. At the same time, they discussed the intention to hold public consultations in July-August in the power transmission line construction zone in Cahul, Leova, Ialoveni, Hincesti, Cimislia, Comrat, Taraclia and Bacioi. As InfoMarket agency reported earlier, the electricity system development project in Moldova is financed by the World Bank and is aimed at the construction of a high-voltage overhead power line Vulcanesti-Chisinau, the modernization / expansion of 2 power plants, as well as strengthening the system of dispatching and electricity metering. The contract for the construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line worth 27 million euros was signed with the Indian company KEC International. Its construction is expected to be completed in 2024. This transmission line will be built as part of the Moldova-Romania interconnection project worth over 260 million euros, which aims to ensure the country's energy security by connecting Moldova to the EU internal energy market through power lines, and also strengthening the internal electricity transmission networks. The project is planned to be implemented by the end of 2024 with the support of the EBRD (loan 80 million euros), EIB (loan 80 million euros), the International Development Association of the World Bank Group (loan 61 million euros), the European Union (grant 39.4 million euros). // 11.07.2023 — InfoMarket.
