After a long period of falling fuel prices, the retail prices for gasoline and diesel fuel in Moldova have started rising again.
The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) announced this, noting that, after a consistent decline in fuel prices in Moldova, which led to a considerable drop in the price of diesel fuel by over 3 lei per liter, the energy regulator has now registered a slight increase in the quotations. According to ANRE, the latest increase of fuel prices in Moldova was caused exclusively by the growth of Platts prices for petroleum products on international exchanges, the indicator underlying the current methodology of price setting. Thus, in the interval of the last 2 weeks, which is used by ANRE to calculate prices, the increase of Platts price constituted $73/ton in case of diesel and $46/ton in case of gasoline and the trend is still present. Meanwhile, the price of Brent has exceeded $85 a barrel in recent days, while at the beginning of February its quotations were below $79 a barrel. Under such circumstances, on March 7, the maximum retail prices for main standard-type petroleum products were set by ANRE as follows: gasoline COR 95 - 24.70 lei per liter (+10 bani); standard diesel - 22.26 lei per liter (+15 bani). ANRE stated that it continues to follow closely the developments on international oil exchanges and has assured consumers of the correctness of the daily calculation of the prices set for the purchase of fuel. // 06.03.2023 – InfoMarket
