Premier Energy has warned of possible rolling blackouts due to power shortages and urged citizens to limit their consumption.
According to the company's statement, the Moldovan energy sector is currently in a particularly difficult situation. As of October 11, Moldova has suspended electric power supplies from Ukraine because a large part of the energy infrastructure of the neighboring country was destroyed because of the armed conflict. Contracts covering 30% of the electric power needed by the country's consumers have been cancelled due to force majeure circumstances. Imports from Romania currently cover only part of the 30% deficit resulting from the supply interruption from Ukraine, while the rest is purchased on the balancing market or on the basis of emergency contracts signed with transport operators from neighboring countries. As Premier Energy noted, in this situation, the central electricity supplier Energocom signals shortages almost every day, especially during peak hours. On Friday, October 21, Premier Energy supplier was officially notified by Energocom of a power shortage of 284 MWh. It was stressed that in the current critical situation due to a shortage of electricity under the high-alert regime in the electricity sector established by the Emergency Situations Commission, the distribution system operator Premier Energy Distribution may receive an order to limit consumption to the volumes stipulated in the contracts, by disconnecting certain categories of consumers from the network, applying rolling blackouts. If it receives a restriction order in advance, Premier Energy Distribution will inform consumers through its communication channels (website, Facebook, Telegram), as well as directly via email, according to its database. In addition, the company will send notifications to local public authorities to inform affected cities or sectors. In this context, Premier Energy reiterated the importance of rationalizing energy consumption during the day, especially during peak hours in the morning between 06:00 and 10:00 and in the evening between 18:00 and 23:00. Specifically, every consumer can minimize energy consumption by not using fireplaces, air conditioners, boilers, kettles, ovens, electric stoves, washers, dryers, irons, vacuum cleaners and other energy-intensive appliances; unplugging televisions, computers and all other standby appliances when not in use; remembering to turn off lights when they are not needed; and planning activities with high energy consumption not during peak hours. Premier Energy also urged energy-consuming industrial businesses to review their production processes by reducing electricity consumption or by changing their work schedules, shifting them from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. // 21.10.2022 – InfoMarket
