Retail prices for gasoline and diesel fuel are decreasing in Moldova against the background of falling quotations for petroleum products on international exchanges - ANRE.

According to the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), in particular, after a period of rising Platts quotations for both gasoline and diesel fuel, their average level is now decreasing, which will also be reflected in retail fuel prices, as calculated by ANRE. The Agency reminds that Platts quotes represent an indicator underlying the current methodology for determining the price level in conditions when Moldova imports 100% of petroleum products. In the oil sector, the price of derivative products (for instance, gasoline and diesel) is correlated with the quotations set daily by the American company S&P Global Platts based on the Platts methodology. The price per ton determined by S&P Global Platts is published and transmitted to its subscribers (production companies, traders, brokers, refiners, importers, government agencies, etc.) each business day after transactions are completed on the Platts MOC platform. This price (quotation) is used by professional market participants to determine the selling price of a ton of gasoline or diesel for the next day. Often, especially in the Southeast European area, the model used as the basis for transactions is the arithmetic average of the quotations for the last 2 weeks. The same time interval is also used in ANRE's daily calculations. The regulator notes that taking into account the latest drop of this indicator, tomorrow, on October 21, the maximum retail prices for basic standard petroleum products are set as follows: gasoline COR 95 - 25,11 lei per liter (-5 bani); standard diesel - 28,84 lei per liter (-9 bani). ANRE underlines that the legislation in force ensures that both increases and decreases of market prices for petrol and diesel are in strict correlation with the level of Platts quotations for these products. ANRE assures Moldovan consumers that, according to the methodology in force, the fuel is sold at the gas stations at a fair price, corresponding to the realities of the day when they make the purchase. The level of prices for petroleum products is influenced only by events on the international market, excluding the possibility for oil companies to interfere in the process of their formation. //20.10.2022 - InfoMarket.
