Moldova can receive from Romania up to 2.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
This was stated by the Prime Minister of Romania, Nicolae Ionel Ciuca, speaking to the participants of the International Gas Conference in Bucharest, which was attended by the Ministers of Energy of Romania, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Hungary, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister infrastructure and regional development of Moldova Andrei Spinu. Nicolae Ionel Ciuca noted in his speech that Romania paid special attention to supporting Moldova, which is experiencing the acute consequences of the energy crisis. According to him, the commissioning of the Onești-Gheraesti-Letcani-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline is consistent support, as it gives Moldova the opportunity to receive up to 2.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year. Andrei Spinu wrote on his page on the social network that during the International Gas Conference in Bucharest, the parties talked about the directions for the development of the energy sector in Moldova and alternatives for providing citizens with natural gas in the winter. “We emphasized the need to diversify gas supplies to our country in the context of new conditions on the international energy market,” the Vice Premier stressed. Earlier, Andrei Spinu noted that Moldova offered Romania to sign a long-term contract for gas supplies at an affordable price or with a possible deferred payment. According to him, the issue of signing such a document was discussed with the Romanian side, and now the ball is on the side of Romania, which must give its answer. Andrei Spinu expressed hope that Romania would be able to help our country in this difficult period as well. Earlier, he explained that, since the contract is long-term, it may provide for other financial conditions for the purchase of gas, other prices, different from market, spot prices. Also earlier, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that Moldova will receive gas from Romania if Gazprom stops deliveries to our country from October 1. At the same time, she noted that in such a situation, the Transnistrian region will be supplied with gas only if it pays for it, and in advance, as the right bank of the Dniester is doing now in relations with Gazprom. //22.09.2022 — InfoMarket.
