The Moldovan authorities continue the dialogue with Russia and expect an early solution to the problem of gas supply to the country, and are also negotiating with the EU on assistance to overcome the energy crisis - MFAEI.
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu, noting that Moldova is not alone in the face of an unprecedented energy crisis, and the country's authorities continue, including through diplomatic channels, to make responsible decisions in the interests of citizens of the republic in search of ways to safe and sustainable energy supply. “We are continuing the dialogue with the Russian Federation through all available channels, including through the MFAEI. Last week, I confirmed my working visit to Moscow in November at the invitation of my colleague Sergey Lavrov, being also co-chairman of the Moldovan-Russian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation. Moldova is interested in effective and predictable cooperation in the energy sector - and looks forward to an early solution to the problem of gas supply to our country. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita shared the same message at a meeting of the Council of Heads of CIS Member States on 15 October. In this regard, other bilateral actions are expected in the near future to continue the dialogue with the Russian side on topical issues, ” Nicu Popescu said. According to him, in recent days, in parallel with the actions of colleagues in the government, MFAEI on an ongoing basis continues negotiations with high-ranking officials of the governments of Romania, Ukraine, Germany, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Poland, Turkey and Azerbaijan, as well as with other partners in the region to find solutions to energy problems. He stressed that in the current energy crisis, Moldova is discussing 3 priority areas with European partners: (I) technical assistance and expertise, (II) identification of potential energy sources, (III) identification of financial solutions to compensate for the rise in energy prices affecting the entire continent. “The recent completion of the latest works on the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline and the interconnection in the field of electricity, important strategic projects that will allow Romania and Moldova to move forward in strengthening cooperation in the field of energy security, were also the topic of the dialogue with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Bogdan Aurescu in the past week, ”said Nicu Popescu.// 19.10.2021- InfoMarket.
