NAER approved a new methodology for calculating and applying prices for petroleum products.

The Board of Directors of the National Agency for Energy Regulation approved at a meeting on October 12 the Methodology for calculating and applying prices for petroleum products. It is in line with the latest amendments to the Petroleum Market Law and will replace the current methodology. The document regulates the way NAER calculates the maximum retail prices for basic petroleum products of the standard type; method for calculating by NAER of a specific commercial margin for the retail sale of basic petroleum products of a standard type; the way in which economic agents set prices based on the maximum prices published by NAER, etc. The agency notes that the applied mechanism for calculating retail prices for basic petroleum products of the standard type (COR 95 gasoline and diesel fuel) will protect the legitimate interests of consumers of petroleum products. The methodology also provides for some specific rules according to which economic operators can retail other types of basic petroleum products, other than those for which the maximum prices are set, but provided that they are sold at the same filling station, and the consumer has the right to choose the product and compare the prices set by the regulator for standard type goods with prices for other similar types of goods. The document also obliges economic operators to inform NAER about all retail prices for petroleum products that will be applied the next day / days. Companies will have to report prices for each gas station through the NAER electronic platform daily on weekdays by 16:00. NAER undertakes to provide economic operators with the specified platform and provide public access to information on the location of each gas station and prices set by them, including the ability to sort the data according to the criterion of the lowest price, location (district, municipality / city) or after the licensee's name is announced, thereby providing consumers a simple tool to identify and select the most profitable fuel supplier. The updated methodology will take effect from the moment of publication in Monitorul Oficial. Within 3 months from the date of its accession, NAER will have to implement all the necessary measures to ensure the functionality of the electronic platform.// 12.10.2021 — InfoMarket
