Moldova is in favor of expanding trade and economic cooperation with Japan and organizing bilateral economic missions

This was discussed during the 4th round of Moldovan-Japanese political consultations held in Tokyo. The Moldovan delegation was headed by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergiu Mihov. The last consultations of this type took place on June 23, 2023. The current bilateral interministerial consultations in Tokyo allowed the parties to discuss in detail the entire range of topics included in the agenda of relations between Moldova and Japan. This included topics related to bilateral and multilateral cooperation, especially in the political-diplomatic and trade-economic spheres, education, science, culture and interpersonal exchanges. Both parties reaffirmed their strong commitment to intensifying multifaceted cooperation of mutual interest, including through the organization of high-level official visits. During the discussion of economic cooperation, Sergiu Mihov presented Moldova's investment opportunities and proposed holding bilateral economic missions aimed at facilitating direct interaction between the business environments of the two countries. The diplomat also stressed the importance of Moldova's participation in the World Expo Osaka 2025, which is considered a valuable platform for promoting Moldovan products on the Japanese market. The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude for the continuous support provided by Japan in such important areas as the economy, healthcare, agriculture, energy security, including through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). According to him, this support is especially valuable in the context of the current challenges faced by Moldova. The consultations also addressed issues related to the interaction of the two states in international organizations, such as the UN, with an emphasis on mutual support for candidates in electoral structures. Another important topic was the evolution of the regional and international situation. The parties stressed the need for continuous dialogue to ensure global security, especially in the context of the aggressive war in Ukraine. Japan reaffirmed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova, including in the context of a peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. Sergiu Mihov invited Japanese partners to take part in the next round of inter-ministerial consultations, which are planned to be held in 2025 in Chisinau. // 05.12.2024 — InfoMarket
