The Russian Foreign Ministry regards the decision of the Moldovan authorities to recognize a Russian embassy employee as persona non grata to be as an unfriendly step
This is stated in a commentary by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, published on the website of the Foreign Ministry. "On August 1, the Moldovan authorities declared an employee of the Russian embassy in Chisinau persona non grata without any clear justification. We regard this unfriendly step as another manifestation of the aggressive anti-Russian course of the current Moldovan leadership, which irresponsibly destroys Russian-Moldovan ties that have deep historical roots," it says. The statement also says that the fomentation of Russophobic sentiments, fabrication and promotion of "spy stories" testify to the loss of the official Chisinau's ability to take adequate actions, to realize the enduring importance of relations between Russia and Moldova for the peoples of the two states. It is emphasized that in the current situation, the Russian side reserves the right to give a proper response to the "unmotivated hostile decision of the Moldovan authorities against an employee of the Russian Embassy". As previously reported, the Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov was summoned today to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and received a note from the Ministry recognizing an employee of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau as persona non grata. According to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, the decision of the Moldovan authorities was made on the basis of specific actions that resulted in the receipt of information and evidence indicating that the Russian diplomat's activities on Moldovan territory were incompatible with diplomatic status. // 01.08.2024 - InfoMarket
