Parliament ratified an agreement between the governments of Moldova and the United States on the acquisition of property for the new building of the US Embassy in Chisinau for 18 million euros
According to the document, the new building of the US diplomatic mission in Moldova will be built on a site with an area of 5.2 hectares on Tighina street, 12. The declared investments will amount to approximately $240 million. The territory, which has been abandoned for 17 years, will be restored with financial assistance from the United States: The historical gates of the former Republican Stadium will be restored and a new park will be laid out. The purchase price of real estate for the new US Embassy building in Moldova was agreed upon in accordance with the provisions of the Law on the Compensatory Transfer of Real Estate. The authorities will use the 18 million euros received to implement important projects: the renovation of a number of sports schools, a feasibility study and design of the future National Stadium and the creation of the Universul Center for Culture and Contemporary Art. The United States will also reimburse costs of up to €7.5 million associated with the transfer of freehold land, including any payments associated with expropriation and clearing it of any buildings. As the chairman of the parliamentary commission on economics, budget and finance, Radu Marian, previously noted, the land plot in the center of Chisinau, on which the United States will build a new embassy building and a public park, will be sold at a fair price and with some mandatory conditions: to preserve the gates of the former Republican Stadium in quality of architectural value; creation of a park; compliance with height restrictions (no more than 35 m). In addition, as a result of this agreement, Moldova will receive US investments amounting to about $250 million, and a significant part of this money will go to local companies, especially construction companies and creative industries, as well as Moldovan companies and other sectors that “will thus generate added value, not to mention the economic value generated by the increase in social activity around the embassy and the creation of green space - through the creation of premises, recreational areas, etc.” “And no less important, we show respect to the United States, a country that has helped the citizens of Moldova for more than 30 years, with free aid amounting to over $2.5 billion,” he said. // 31.07.2024 — InfoMarket
