The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the integration of Moldova and Ukraine into the EU will be a priority for her second term
She said this in a speech in the European Parliament on Thursday. According to foreign media reports, Ursula von der Leyen called inviting these countries to the EU “a moral, historical and political responsibility.” She pledged to support candidate countries by working on investment and reform, and integrating them into the EU legal framework where possible. “Entry will always be a merit-based process. And we guarantee that all countries will be ready to join. But completing the formation of our Union is also in our main interests. And this will be a key priority for my Commission,” said Ursula von der Leyen. Recall that the EU Council approved the negotiating framework for Moldova and Ukraine on accession on June 21, and intergovernmental conferences took place one after the other on June 25 that marked the launch of negotiations with both countries. // 18.07.2024 — InfoMarket.
