Moldova is in favor of increasing German investments in manufacturing, agribusiness, IT and green energy.
This was stated by Moldovan President Maia Sandu at a joint press conference in Berlin with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. She emphasized Moldova's interest to take over the experience of the German companies in these and other fields. She emphasized that Germany is an important economic partner of Moldova, where numerous German companies are active. "This cooperation - along with your support for our small and medium-sized businesses - creates jobs and stimulates our economy," the Moldovan head of state said. Maia Sandu expressed deep gratitude to Germany for its constant assistance, especially in these difficult times, stressing that the Moldova Support Platform is a vivid example of such cooperation. She said that this initiative, launched by Germany jointly with Romania and France in March 2022, after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, has helped Moldova to maintain stability, support Ukrainian refugees, avoid Russian energy blackmail and continue economic and social reforms. "As we move forward on our path, it is evolving into a Partnership Platform that will focus on long-term cooperation and development to further strengthen us in achieving our common goals. Our cooperation also encompasses security issues. With your support, we strengthen Moldova's resilience against threats to our sovereignty and our European path," Maia Sandu said. She noted that Germany is a key ally on Moldova's path to stability, democracy and prosperity and expressed gratitude to the German Chancellor and all German citizens for their strong support for Ukraine, noting that supporting Ukraine is not only solidarity, but also the defense of the principles of our collective freedom and security. "By supporting Ukraine, you are also supporting Moldova, and my country would not be safe today if Ukraine had not resisted the invasion. At the same time, supporting Moldova strengthens Ukraine. A democratic and stable Moldova acts as a steadfast neighbor of Ukraine, with which we share a 1,200-km-long border, and as an increasingly important security partner on the EU's eastern border," Maia Sandu said. Moldovan President said that while we are preparing for Ukraine's future reconstruction, Moldova is ready to become a strategic center of these efforts. "We are strengthening our infrastructure - building bridges, roads and railroads - to facilitate the transit of Ukrainian goods and strengthen our own ties with the EU, while continuing to integrate Moldova into the European community. Our commitment to European integration is at the heart of our national agenda. Moldova is modernizing. We are strengthening our energy independence, bringing ourselves in line with European standards, fighting corruption and reforming our justice system," the head of state emphasized. // 20.05.2024 – InfoMarket
