The next spring “Wine Vernissage” will take place in Moldova on May 16 and will be dedicated to wines with protected geographical indication

According to the National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV), the event will be held under the slogan “Origin and Authenticity: 10 Years of Wines with Protected Geographical Indication.” It should be noted that 10 years ago, the first wine with protected geographical indication (PGI) on the label was produced in Moldova, and this anniversary will be the theme of the 23rd edition of the “Wine Vernissage”. According to the ONVV, PGI is a mark of high quality that shows the connection between wine and the local “terroir,” geographical region, traditions, and production methods. The Protected Geographical Indication mark guarantees the high quality and traceability of Moldovan wine and is an indicator of authenticity, connection to the region of origin, the typicality of the varieties used, and compliance with strict winemaking rules. This certification system, indicated on wine labels, is a recognized standard in the European Union and is an important tool for promoting Moldovan wine on international markets. New wines and products with the PGI label will be presented at the opening of the “Wine Vernissage.” The spring edition of the “Wine Vernissage” will be a showcase for 40 wineries, which will offer more than 160 PGI wines and 8 divins produced in Moldova's wine-growing regions for tasting: “Codru” PGI (located in central Moldova and known for its elegant white wines and exquisite sparkling wines), “Stefan Voda” PGI (located in the south-east of Moldova, the birthplace of complex red wines, exquisite blends and bright aromas), “Valul lui Traian” PGI (covering the south of the country and producing intense, full-bodied wines with a rich bouquet and a spicy taste), “Divin” PGI (certifies the origin of Moldovan wine distillates produced in specific geographical areas in accordance with strict standards corresponding to the rules characteristic of noble beverages). In addition, participants will discover 31 new wines, including premium sparkling wines, white, rosé, and red wines bearing the PGI label. As noted by the ONVV, each wine with the PGI label is a lesson in terroir, local traditions, perfection, and high quality. The 23rd “Wine Vernissage” is organized by the National Office of Vine and Wine and the PGI wine-making associations “Codru,” “Stefan Voda,” and “Valul lui Traian.” // 05.05.2025 — InfoMarket
