Moldova ranks 2nd in the list of the most popular wine tourism destinations in the world
As reported by the National Office of Vine and Wine, this is evidenced by a study conducted by the international platform Bounce. The ranking was created on the basis of criteria such as wine consumption and production, the area of vineyards and the number of organized tours, highlighting the diversity and richness of the country's wine heritage. With a score of 8.16 points, Moldova ranked 2nd in the ranking. First place went to Portugal with 8.83 points and third place went to Italy with a score of 7.86 points. The authors of the study noted that although Moldova may not be the first country that comes to mind when considering wine tourism, it is our Eastern European country that is a hidden gem with a rich history of winemaking that dates back more than 5000 years. Moldova's vineyards cover 122 thousand hectares, which is 3.6% of the area of the small country, more than in any other country in the analyzed list. The “Codru” region, located in the central part of the country, is one of the most important and historically significant wine-producing regions of Moldova. There are also 21 wine tours and tastings per million people, covering the country's extensive network of underground wine cellars, the most famous of which is “Milestii Mici”. The National Office of Vine and Wine notes that Moldova's achievement - the 2nd place in the list of the most popular wine tourism destinations in the world - is not only a recognition of the quality of our wines, but also a proof of our country's tourism potential. Pride in this position on the world stage reflects the continuous efforts of Moldovan vine growers and winemakers, who have worked tirelessly to create excellent products. “We have a long history of viticulture and the award we received motivates us to continue promoting cultural values and attracting tourists from all over the world. This success represents an opportunity to emphasize the uniqueness of Moldovan wine and encourage more and more enthusiasts to discover the richness of the wine heritage. We celebrate this achievement and strive to maintain the standards of excellence in winemaking,” emphasizes the National Office of Vine and Wine. // 08.10.2024 - InfoMarket.
