The Technical University of Moldova (UTM) opened the Cybercor National Institute of Innovations in Cybersecurity
During the opening of Cybercor, the rector of the university, Viorel Bostan, said that this is not only a step forward for UTM, but also for the whole country, which is in a complex digital context. “Our mission at Cybercor is clear and ambitious: to identify and understand the challenges and vulnerabilities we face in cyberspace. Here at Cybercor, our teams of experts will analyze every threat and every flaw in digital security systems in detail. But we will not stop there; our goal is to develop innovative and effective solutions, which will subsequently be recommended to local and central public authorities. We want every institution in Moldova, whether public or private, to feel protected from this invisible enemy in the digital world. Cybercor will contribute to the creation of a powerful shield able to respond to cyber threats that jeopardize our national security, as well as economic and social security,” Viorel Bostan said. At the same time, at one of the discussions during the Cybercor launch, the university's vice-rector for digitalization, Dinu Turcanu, noted that the first-year students of UTM and the college at the university will undergo compulsory training in the field of cyber security. In total, about 3.8 thousand young people will be trained. It is worth noting that during the inauguration, Cybercor established a strategic partnership with the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs by signing relevant agreements. This partnership is expected to help ensure a robust national cyber security and resilience system with a focus on technological innovation and enforcement of legislation in the fight against cybercrime. Cybercor Director Ludmila Peca said that the partnership with institutions important for national security will allow combining legal expertise and technological innovation, offering comprehensive cyber defense necessary for a stable and secure digital environment in Moldova. According to UTM's press service, the agreement with the Prosecutor General's Office concerns joint projects that will support the professional training of prosecutors in cyber security and facilitate the exchange of confidential information. It also provides for the exchange of information on current legislation and court procedures, as well as special training sessions for law enforcement officers on combating cybercrime. Cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs through the Information Technology Service will facilitate the development of innovative technical solutions and cyber monitoring programs. The partnership will concern the development of technical skills and research projects for advanced technological solutions aimed at ensuring cyber defense of strategic institutions in Moldova, etc. Let us remind you that Cybercor is located in the UTM premises and occupies a total area of 800 square meters. It has 4 laboratories specialized in cyber security threat modeling and training of cyber security team, training and exercise rooms, as well as a conference hall where events with up to 300 participants will be held. The total investment in Cybercor's infrastructure and equipment reaches $2 million, of which $1.5 million is a contribution from USAID, Sweden and the United Kingdom under the Future Technologies Activity (FTA), and $0.5 million is an investment from the Technical University and the Moldovan government. // 18.09.2024 - InfoMarket.
