Moldova ranks 1st in the world in terms of vineyard area per capita and is the 14th largest exporter of wine worldwide

According to the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Dumitru Alaiba, these and other figures were cited during a special event dedicated to Moldova's wine sector, which took place within Moldova Business Week 2024 at the winery “Mirceşti” in the village of Mircesti, Ungheni district. The event discussed the contribution of wine and tourism to Moldova's economy and noted that Moldova “really has a lot of reasons to be proud of”. For example, Moldova ranks 1st in the world in terms of vineyard area per capita - 4 hectares of vineyards per 100 people. Moldova is among the top 20 largest wine producers and is the 14th largest wine exporter in the world. In 2023 Moldova exported 123 million liters of wine to 75 countries. The main 5 markets for Moldovan wines are: Romania, Poland, Czech Republic, USA and China. The total value of Moldovan wine exports in 2023 amounted to $192.1 million. In addition, Moldovan wine also attracts a large number of tourists. “We have more than 200 wineries that offer not only quality products but also a unique experience for visitors around the world. Our current task is to repeat the success of the wine industry in other sectors as well. If we have managed to establish ourselves on the world stage with our wine, we will certainly be able to achieve similar results in other areas”, said Dumitru Alaiba. During the event, it was noted that the wine industry and tourism in Moldova have shown a significant growth in recent years, thanks to the excellent quality of wine products and the modernization of the tourism infrastructure. Thanks to new tourist routes and a solid legislative framework, Moldova has positioned itself as a destination of interest for international partnerships, supporting both economic growth and promotion on the world tourism scene. The participants in the event discussed the impact of tourism and wine on the national economy, touching upon such topics as the development of tourist routes, current trends in wine consumption and strategies for international cooperation. // 19.09.2024 - InfoMarket.
