Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu called on investors to contribute to the development of Moldova's agriculture through specific projects, new partnerships, and expert support
He delivered this message at the Agrifood Partnership Investment Forum held on Thursday in Chisinau. The head of the Cabinet noted the growing demand for Moldovan products on the European market, which “testifies to the improvement of quality standards, including thanks to investments in modern technologies.” “Today's investments in Moldovan agriculture mean investments in an economy that is rapidly adapting to the European market. Our priority is structural investments that modernize agriculture and provide farmers with the necessary tools to increase their competitiveness in the European market,” said Alexandru Munteanu. The Prime Minister assured that the government would continue to support farmers in improving their productivity and resilience to climate change, including through the Growth Plan supported by the European Union. Thus, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry announced the 5th grant competition under the AGGRI project, which offers up to $1 million in funding for the development of farms and the strengthening of biosecurity measures. Work is currently underway to restore three irrigation systems in the Cahul, Stefan Voda, and Briceni districts. Investments are also being made to restore irrigation in the Criuleni and Falesti districts. To help farmers better manage risks in this sector, the state covers 70% of the cost of agricultural insurance premiums. The National Fund for Agriculture and Rural Development increased by 70% compared to 2021, reaching 1.9 billion lei in 2025 – the highest level in history, with a total of more than 8 billion lei allocated to this sector during this period. The Prime Minister pointed out that the Moldovan authorities support the modernization of livestock farms by providing grants of up to $1 million and access to preferential financing under the Livada Moldovei (the Fruit Garden of Moldova) project and ADMA (Agency for the Development and Modernization of Agriculture), thanks to which farmers were provided with preferential loans worth €28 million. As part of eight financial assistance projects, 1,648 farmers received support for modernization. A bill has recently been proposed to increase the presence of local products on store shelves, as well as another project to support short supply chains, including through the prioritization of public sector procurement. “Let's all support Moldovan products and buy good domestic goods!” the Prime Minister urged. The agri-food sector investment forum is focused on attracting capital to key sectors such as production technology, infrastructure, and fruit and vegetable storage; modernization of livestock farming and winemaking; and cross-sector innovations such as digitalization, organic farming, and sustainable resource management. In 2024, Moldova's agriculture contributed 7.1% to GDP, and together with the food industry, about 14%. This sector accounts for more than 45% of national exports, creates about 18% of jobs, and uses 69% of the country's agricultural land. // 05.03.2026 — InfoMarket
