Large-scale reconstruction has begun at the Costesti-Stinca Dam, with planned investments totaling 32.7 million lei
According to the Ministry of Environment, the work is being carried out by the Apele Moldovei (Waters of Moldova) agency and is aimed at modernizing and ensuring the safety of this hydraulic structure of national importance. Specifically, the project includes the restoration of the dam's metal components, which have deteriorated over time due to temperature fluctuations, constant humidity, and natural corrosion processes. It is also planned to restore the mechanisms that regulate controlled water flow, including devices in the downstream discharge zone, and components associated with the energy systems, in order to maintain the dam's ability to effectively manage the Prut River's flow. A key role in the project is played by upgrading the hydraulic structure's condition monitoring system through the drilling of boreholes and the installation of 34 new measurement points. This work is necessary for monitoring water infiltration and observing the dam's structural features. At the same time, four concrete slabs in the dam area will be replaced, including the filling of the cracks beneath them. The work is scheduled to be completed within two years. The dam, built between 1974 and 1978, is 3 kilometers long and 43 meters high. It is the central element of Moldova's hydrological protection system and generates approximately 1.3% of the country's energy consumption. // 03.12.2025 – InfoMarket.
