Over 25 years of activity in Moldova, the total portfolio of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) programs amounted to approximately $266.8 million

These figures were presented at an event organized to mark the 25th anniversary of Moldova's cooperation with IFAD. Thanks to strategic investments and sustainable partnerships, the Consolidated IFAD Programme Implementation Unit (IFAD UCIP) has contributed to the modernization of agriculture, the development of rural infrastructure, the improvement of small producers' competitiveness, and the strengthening of climate change resilience over the past quarter century. The total portfolio of IFAD programs in Moldova has reached approximately $266.8 million, of which $146.5 million is direct IFAD investment and $24.4 million is non-reimbursable grants. IFAD UCIP Director Iurie Usurelu emphasized that these investments have accelerated the modernization of micro and small agricultural enterprises, diversified rural businesses, and created real opportunities for farmers in urgent need of support. "The impact is measured in people: more than 200,000 people across the country have received financial and technical assistance, and more than 20,000 jobs have been created in rural areas, helping to strengthen small producers and reduce migration. In addition, 35% of beneficiaries are young people and women, reflecting IFAD's commitment to the principles of inclusiveness, equality, and support for a new generation of leaders in rural areas," he noted. The anniversary event “IFAD Programs in Moldova – A Quarter Century of Supporting Rural Development” presented the results of projects and stories of farmers who, thanks to investments, were able to modernize their farms and expand their businesses. Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga noted that climate change makes support for farmers particularly critical: IFAD programs help introduce technologies for access to water, risk management, and increased production sustainability. Liam F. Chicca, Head of IFAD's Interregional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia emphasized that the program contributes to poverty reduction and the economic integration of women and youth. "The technical and financial assistance provided to the Republic of Moldova since 2000 has contributed to improving the well-being of the rural population, reducing poverty, and promoting the economic integration of youth and women. We are convinced that the positive impact of these investments will be felt in rural communities for many years to come," he stressed. It is worth noting that since 2000, the Moldovan government and IFAD have signed eight financing agreements. // 26.11.2025 – InfoMarket.
