The French Development Agency (AFD) will continue to finance strategic projects in Moldova and will help attract new French investments to the country
This was discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and AFD Regional Director Mathieu Vasseur and the French Ambassador to Moldova, Dominique Waag. It was noted that AFD will continue to assist Moldova in implementing reforms aimed at improving the lives of citizens and achieving its European integration goals. The parties discussed areas of cooperation and areas in which Moldova could receive AFD support. The Prime Minister praised the agency's alignment with government priorities, noting its extensive project portfolio, which includes a number of projects of importance to the country. AFD provides support in the energy sector: the INSPIREE (Initiative for the Development of Sustainable Public Infrastructure through Energy-Efficient Renovation) project envisions the energy renovation of 30 public buildings, 16 of which are universities and 14 are district hospitals. The project will benefit approximately 200,000 citizens, with annual savings of €2 million. Another project, worth €25 million, is focused on expanding the use of green energy in Moldova. It focuses on the development of renewable energy sources, the modernization of energy infrastructure, the implementation of energy efficiency solutions, and enhanced consumer protection. AFD will also finance irrigation system rehabilitation projects worth over €44 million. Officials also noted AFD's support in water supply and sanitation, reforestation, social protection, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The AFD Regional Director also expressed the agency's readiness to intensify cooperation in justice reform, strengthening the rule of law, and attracting French investment into the national economy. Dialogue between Moldova and the AFD Group was launched in 2021, and the AFD office in Chisinau was opened on February 1, 2022. AFD Group has become the main financial partner of the Moldovan government and the European Commission under the investment component of the Moldova Growth Plan.//26.11.2025 – InfoMarket.
