The European Parliament intends to include funds for Moldova’s preparation for EU accession in the EU multiannual budget, as well as to compensate for the recently suspended US funding to USAID, especially in the energy sector.
This was stated by Romanian MEP Dan Barna, who announced a number of successes in the negotiations on the country report on Moldova. As the Renew Europe rapporteur for Moldova, he thanked his fellow MEPs for supporting a number of requests, including: the inclusion of targeted pre-accession funding in the future EU multiannual budget; the integration of Moldova into EU security and defence programmes, including participation in the new European Defence Industrial Programme; a request to Member States for additional funding for Moldova through the European Peace Facility; a request to the EU to compensate for the USAID funding recently suspended by the Washington administration, especially in the energy sector. These key proposals were supported by the majority of pro-European groups in the European Parliament. "Moldova is making significant progress in the EU accession process, and all pro-European groups in the European Parliament support the efforts of the Moldovan authorities," said Dan Barna. // 16.06.2025 — InfoMarket
