Total amount of Moldova's financing under the Reform and Growth Facility has been increased from 1.8 billion euros to 1.9 billion euros and this additional 100 million euros also includes 60 million euros of assistance to Transnistria
This was announced by MEP Siegfried Muresan, co-chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the Moldova-EU Association and co-rapporteur of the European Parliament on the Economic Growth Plan for Moldova. He wrote on his social network page that after 3 months of close negotiations, last night it was possible to reach an agreement between the European Parliament, the EU Council and the European Commission on the adoption of the Reform and Growth Fund for Moldova, and this agreement contains three good news for Moldova. “First, we managed to finalize the negotiations faster than other similar dossiers adopted so far. This agreement will be put to a formal vote at the plenary session of the European Parliament in March and the law will enter into force immediately. This will allow the first funds to reach Moldova no later than May. Secondly, on my proposal, we managed to increase the pre-financing for Moldova by more than 200 million euros. These are funds that will reach Moldova shortly after the Mechanism enters into force. The European Commission initially proposed a pre-financing of 7% of the initial amount of 1.8 billion euros. Under my proposal, we got an increase in the preliminary financing to 18%, which means an increase in the value of the preliminary financing by more than 200 million euros, to more than 300 million euros,” Siegfried Muresan said. Thirdly, he said, it was also possible to achieve an increase in the total amount of funding by 100 million euros, from 1.8 billion eurosto 1.9 billion euros. This 100 million euros also includes 60 million euros in aid for the Transnistrian region, announced by the European Commission in January. “This increase in funding is important to Moldova as the country needs maximum support for economic development, infrastructure development, modernization of roads, schools, hospitals, and support in overcoming the economic consequences of Russia's blackmail on gas supplies. The EU is only safe if Moldova is safe. By quickly approving this funding, the EU shows that it understands this and is united in helping Moldova to fight external attacks, to improve people's living standards and to continue on the European path,” Siegfried Muresan said. // 20.02.2025 - InfoMarket
