The EU intends to allocate Moldova a package of military assistance worth 40 million euros, in the framework of which long-range detection radar will be purchased.
The Brussels-based EUobserver portal reported this, citing a memorandum of March 13, available to the publication. It is noted that the EU will spend another 40 million euros to support Moldova, with most of the money to be spent on "ground mobile radar for long-range surveillance," which will help our country control its airspace. The rest of the money will be spent on "highly mobile light tactical vehicles and pickups," "forklifts, buses and trucks," communications equipment, and software to protect against hacker attacks. The money will come from the European Peace Facility, which has mainly helped with arms deliveries to Ukraine since the outbreak of war in that country. The fund is worth about 8 billion euros. The military procurement unit of the State Defense Investment Center under the Estonian Ministry of Defense will handle purchases for Moldova. Earlier, Minister of Defense of Moldova Anatolie Nosatii said that the country wanted to strengthen the ability to monitor its airspace. He specified that Moldova can be essisted in this by its partners. Anatolie Nosatii added that earlier this subject was not paid enough attention to due to the lack of the need to develop such technologies and the high costs of doing this. // 15.03.2023 – InfoMarket
