USAID contributes to the development of Moldova's tourism infrastructure to establish it on the world map as an authentic tourist destination.
As noted in the USAID Moldova message, in particular, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) contributes to the achievement of these goals through the Light Industry and Tourism Competitiveness Support Project and the EDGE project in Moldova. USAID Moldova emphasizes that in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the regional energy crisis, supporting the tourism sector has become critical, and increasing its resilience has become a priority. Thus, within the framework of the grant program implemented by the Tourism Competitiveness Support Project, guest houses from Moldova received assistance to apply alternative energy solutions - solar photovoltaic systems, geothermal pumps and biomass heaters. In particular, the owner of the Hanul lui Hanganu guest house in the village of Lalovo, Sergiu Hanganu, decided to reorient himself to alternative sources so as not to depend on external factors and be able to meet tourists with light and warmth, regardless of the regional context. Now the guest house has 70 solar panels installed, some of which were purchased under the Tourism Competitiveness Support Project grant program. USAID Moldova emphasizes that Sergiu Hanganu's initiative to introduce energy efficient solutions will help increase the resilience of his business so that he can adapt to different situations in the future. At the sectoral level, this will allow for a more sustainable development of the sector and comply with global trends in this area. // 11.01.2023 — InfoMarket.
