The European Commission will allocate an additional 175 million euros to support internally displaced persons and Ukrainian refugees in Ukraine and Moldova.
It will help set up shelters for Ukrainians during the winter, launch a new program of emergency shelters and winter facilities for Ukraine as the Russian war continues to destroy civilian infrastructure, provide humanitarian assistance to support those most in need in Ukraine and Moldova. According to the European Commission, this was announced by European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič during a visit to Kyiv. He noted that while Russia continues to intensify its attacks on Ukraine, in particular on civilian infrastructure and residential buildings, the EU is more committed than ever to its support for Ukraine. “The upcoming winter is likely to bring serious problems to Ukraine, and we must be prepared for this. The European Union intends to use the mechanism of civil protection to deploy temporary shelters in three different regions of Ukraine: Rivne region, Buchansk region and Kharkiv region,” said Janez Lenarčič. According to him, in addition, the EU is increasing funding for humanitarian assistance, allocating another 175 million euros to ensure education, food, access to water and protection from the cold winter of the most vulnerable segments of the population. At the same time, out of the announced 175 million euros of humanitarian aid, most of the funds - 150 million euros - will be allocated to help Ukraine, and 25 million euros - to Moldova. The funds will primarily be used to provide people with shelter suitable for living in the winter, as well as emergency training, health care and protection assistance. //20.10.2022 — InfoMarket.
