The European Union will provide Moldova with new macro-financial aid of 150 million euros.

The European Union will provide Moldova with new macro-financial aid of 150 million euros.

The parliamentary press service reported this, noting that at a meeting on Wednesday, the Commission for Foreign Policy and European Integration approved the start of negotiations and the subsequent signing of the relevant memorandum. It is noted that part of this amount will be provided in a grant, and another - in a soft loan. The macrofinancial assistance will contribute to Moldova's economic recovery by promoting a set of policies. The main reforms are focused on the energy sector, the fight against corruption, the rule of law and the business climate. The money will also be used to cover Moldova's budgetary needs. The EU financial assistance will be provided for 2.5 years, starting from the first day after the memorandum takes effect. It should be reminded that on April 6, 2022, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union decided to provide additional macro-financial assistance to Moldova in the context of the consequences of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, as well as to manage the gas crisis and economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic. Of the total sum of macro-financial assistance to be granted to Moldova, as reported earlier, up to 120 million euros will be provided as medium-term and long-term loans with favorable financing terms and up to 30 million euros as grants. At the same time, as InfoMarket agency earlier reported, Moldova asked the EU to increase the macro-financial assistance to our country from 150 million to 300 million euros and its grant component - from 30 to 150 million euros, noting that the longer the war in Ukraine lasts, the more humanitarian aid, security and socio-economic assistance Moldova will need. Moldovan authorities stressed that such an increase in macrofinancial assistance is necessary, because the current amounts were determined before the military conflict in Ukraine. // 25.05.2022 - InfoMarket.
