EU will allocate additional 5 million euros for humanitarian projects in Moldova and 45 million euros in Ukraine.
The European Commission reported this, noting that, in particular, the EU is allocating another 50 million euros for humanitarian funding to support people affected by the war in Ukraine. This funding is part of the 1 billion euros aid package promised by the European Commission during the Stand Up For Ukraine global donor event earlier. This new funding will meet the most urgent humanitarian needs by providing emergency medical care, access to safe drinking water and hygiene, shelter and protection, and cash assistance. European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič noted that with millions of people on the move or caught up in active fighting, the needs in Ukraine are already enormous, and we must now be prepared for further escalation of Russian attacks on Ukraine, especially in the east. It should be noted that on February 28, the European Commission announced 90 million euros for humanitarian aid programs to help civilians affected by the war in Ukraine. This included 85 million euros for Ukraine and 5 million euros for Moldova, respectively. On March 10, the European Commission allocated Moldova an additional 3 million euros in humanitarian funding to support refugees from Ukraine. The European Commission is also coordinating its largest-ever civil protection operation to help those affected, both in Ukraine and in neighboring countries. To date, more than 19,000 tons of aid has been delivered to Ukraine from EU logistics hubs in Poland, Slovakia and Romania, including basic necessities such as medicine, food, power generators and equipment for shelters. // 18.04.2022- InfoMarket.
