Moldova will receive additional funding from the US in the form of grants totaling $35.73 million to strengthen democracy and sustainable economic growth.

In particular, this is envisaged by two amendments to the Development Assistance Agreement between the governments of Moldova and the United States to strengthen participatory democracy, as well as to the Development Assistance Agreement between the governments of the Republic of Moldova and the United States for sustainable economic growth based on European integration, the start of negotiations on which and the subsequent signing approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Moldova at a meeting on Wednesday. Both mentioned agreements were signed between the governments of Moldova and the United States on September 28, 2016, and their implementation period is until the end of 2025. To date, 11 amendments to each document have been approved to the agreements, and now it is planned to introduce the 12th amendment for each agreement. In particular, the 12th amendment to the Agreement with the United States on Assistance in Strengthening Participatory Democracy provides for the provision of additional funding to Moldova in the form of a grant in the amount of $19.42 million, which will increase the total amount of non-reimbursable financial assistance for Moldova envisaged under the document to $96.33 million. This money will be used to increase citizen engagement, increase the responsiveness of public institutions, and reduce the vulnerability of democratic institutions and processes. It should be noted that so far, only $54.5 million has been disbursed from the grant amount provided for by 11 amendments to this agreement ($76.9 million) for sustainable economic growth based on European integration, will increase the total amount of gratuitous financial assistance provided for by the document for Moldova by $16.31 million - up to $106.93 million.
