The World Bank to grant Moldova additional 24.8 million euros for the Emergency COVID-19 Response Project.
In particular, this is provided for by a corresponding financial agreement between Moldova and the International Development Association, a member of the World Bank Group, the signing of which was approved by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu. It should be noted that earlier, the WB approved the allocation of an additional 24.8 million euros loan to Moldova under the "Emergency COVID-19 Response Project". This loan is planned to support the national implementation of the COVID-19 immunization process by funding the following: procurement of COVID-19 vaccines; strengthening infrastructure related to vaccine administration, immunization systems (cold chain facilities, waste management infrastructure, remote temperature monitoring, transport and logistics infrastructure, digital data systems for monitoring immunization and assessing needs for vaccines, consumables and equipment, assessing vaccine management and administrative potential and training of workers involved in the procurement process); strengthening the institutional framework for safe and effective immunization. The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection through a special unit created for this purpose, and the deadline for the implementation of the project is April 30, 2023. In particular, as part of the additional financing of the WB project, vaccines against coronavirus will be purchased to cover 30% of the population in the second and third stages of vaccination. Also, within the framework of financing, technical and financial assistance will be provided for the vaccination of 50% of the population of Moldova. It is noted that vaccines will be purchased directly from manufacturers and through the COVAX platform, as well as excess stocks from other countries will be purchased. At the same time, it will be taken into account the value for money, the timing of vaccine delivery, the capabilities of the national immunization system, the compliance of vaccines with standards, etc. All vaccines against COVID-19 will be provided to the public free of charge, vaccination planning will be carried out in accordance with the National Immunization Plan against COVID-19. “Moldova needs to access safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines on the global market to save the lives of its citizens, and the World Bank is here to help,” said Anna Akhalkatsi, Director of the World Bank Office in Moldova. Let us recall that at the end of April 2020, the World Bank approved a 52.9 million euros loan for Moldova for the implementation of emergency measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic by strengthening the country's national health system and reducing social risks. Thus, taking into account additional financing, the total amount of the WB loan for this project increases to 77.7 million euros. // 01.07.2021 - InfoMarket
