Over 20 years, Südzucker-Moldova has invested over 60 million euros in the development of the beet sugar industry in Moldova.

The Moldovan-German enterprise Südzucker-Moldova, the leader of the beet sugar industry in Moldova, celebrated its 20th anniversary on May 25. According to the company, during its activity in Moldova, it has invested more than 60 million euros in the modernization of sugar production, in the Green Energy project, as well as in the technical and technological development of the Moldovan beet growing. The investments of the company, along with the development of agricultural partners and the formation of the framework conditions for the sugar market synchronized with the EU, contributed to the revival of Moldova’s beet sugar industry and made Moldovan sugar competitive in the European and regional markets. Let us recall that the main shareholder of the company - the European concern Südzucker AG - is the largest sugar producer in Europe. The concern includes sugar factories located in Germany, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Austria, Poland, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as refineries, plants for the production of bioethanol, pizza, fruit concentrates and semi-finished products. Südzucker-Moldova owns 3 sugar factories. Two factories are involved in sugar production - Drochia and Falesti factories, and a modern logistics and packaging center has been organized at the Alexandreni plant. Due to significant stock balances, sugar production in 2020 was reduced to 31 thousand tons. The sowing area of sugar beet contracted by Südzucker-Moldova in 2020 was 6 thousand hectares, and the harvest, despite the unprecedented drought, exceeded 238 thousand tons of sugar beet. Südzucker-Moldova is certified according to international standards ISO 9001: 2008 and HACCP. The company exports sugar to several EU and CIS countries. In 2008 Südzucker-Moldova registered a subsidiary agricultural enterprise with a wide profile - Agro-SZM, which cultivates more than 12 thousand hectares of land using modern agricultural machinery and beet growing technologies. Providing comprehensive consulting and financial assistance to farms, the German specialists of the company brought the European culture of sugar beet cultivation to Moldova. As a result, the average beet yield increased from 21 t / ha to 40-50 t / ha, depending on the climatic conditions of the year. The company annually allocates technical loans totaling about 100 million lei to its agricultural partners for the production of this crop. In addition, Südzucker-Moldova has implemented the Green Energy project: a biogas plant has been built at a plant in Drochia, which produces 8.5 million cubic meters of biogas from sugar beet pulp per year. The capacity of the cogeneration units is 3.6 MW / h. By-products of the biogas plant operation - about 50 thousand tons per year of fertile sludge-digestate, valuable organic fertilizer, as well as hot water, which is used to heat the premises of the plant, and is a source of thermal energy for a grain drying line with a capacity of 200-400 tons per day. // 25.05.2021 - InfoMarket.
