A new grants program for a total of 700 thousand euros has been launched in Moldova for the development of business of entrepreneurs in Ungheni and Cahul districts.

Assistance for private sector development in both key regions of the country is provided by the European Union under the EU4Moldova Focal Regions program. EU Ambassador to Moldova Peter Michalko noted that the new stage of grants to support small and medium-sized businesses will help improve the lives of residents of Cahul and Unghen. Thus, new jobs will be created and the income of employees will increase, as well as the principles of introducing an ecological economy will be supported. This became possible thanks to the fact that the EU allocated almost 23 million euros for the EU4Moldova: Focal Regions program to stimulate inclusive, environmental, and sustainable economic development, using modern technologies. This program is a concrete example of how EU support improves the quality of life of people, especially by promoting an environmentally sound approach to economic recovery. A total of 26 companies from the two focal regions named, in particular, enterprises, start-ups and social entrepreneurship initiatives are eligible for grant aid totaling 15,000 to 30,000 euros this year. This is the second competition for the selection of companies for financing the private sector, initiated by the EU4Moldova: Focal Regions program. The first round was conducted in 2020. To date, 28 enterprises, start-ups and social entrepreneurship initiatives have received assistance from European funds. The financial assistance can be used to purchase equipment, goods, works and services in order to develop business, promote circular economy models, create new jobs, and increase the attractiveness of focal regions for new investments. The grant program will also be accompanied by free mentoring and training events to foster an entrepreneurial culture in focal regions. Detailed conditions of the competition and application forms are published on the websites www.eu4cahul.md, www.eu4ungheni.md. The deadline for applications is June 15th. Entrepreneurs from the Ungheni and Cahul regions can apply in the following categories: 1. Support and expansion of existing bussinesses (grants of 30 thousand euros, total number of beneficiaries: 12 (6 for each); 2. Support for existing or newly created startups (grants of 15 thousand or 25 thousand euros, total number of beneficiaries: 12 (6 for each); 3. Support for social entrepreneurship initiatives (grants of 20 thousand euros, total number of beneficiaries: 2 (1 each). State-owned enterprises, companies created by local public administration authorities, companies that received grants from the 2020 program cannot participate in this competition. This is the second competition for grants for entrepreneurs of the Cahul and Ungheni districts, organized by the EU4Moldova: Focal Regions program. The third and the last competition for the private sector in focal regions will be launched in 2022. The total amount of grants for the entrepreneurial environment in two districts delivered under the program EU4Moldova: "Focal regions", is about 1.7 million euros. // 18.05.2021– InfoMarket
