In Moldova, with the support of IFC, part of the WB group, a feasibility study will be conducted for the construction of a new terminal at Chisinau Airport.
This was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu, speaking at the International Conference Aviation-Event 2024 RMO, which was held for the first time on May 30 by the Chisinau International Airport on the topic “Prospects and challenges for Moldova’s aviation on the way to the European Union.” Andrei Spinu noted that after returning to state administration, the capital’s airport has made greater progress in restoring infrastructure: the main runway has been modernized, new equipment for its maintenance has been purchased, a parking lot with 260 spaces will be built in the near future, and work will begin on modernizing the electrical grid. At the same time, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development noted that the number of passengers at the capital's airport is increasing significantly, and in order to cope in terms of infrastructure and become even more competitive, we need a larger and more spacious airport that meets all European standards. In this regard, he announced the preparation, with the support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank group, of a feasibility study for the construction of a new terminal at Chisinau Airport. Based on preliminary analysis, it will be able to accommodate more than 5 million passengers per year. Completion of the feasibility study is expected by the end of this year. Regarding the future of the aviation sector in Moldova, Andrei Spinu emphasized that it is at the beginning of the path, which is an advantage. “Our goal is to modernize the infrastructure, launch more direct routes at an affordable price for our citizens, and also bring national legislation into line with European legislation,” the minister noted. He emphasized that the International Conference Aviation-Event 2024 RMO is a unique event for Moldova, thanks to which event participants have the opportunity to get acquainted with the aviation industry in our country, as well as with people whose hospitality is known throughout the world. “I hope that this event will become a tradition for the aviation industry. Moldova is known as a small country with a big heart, and I can say the same about Chisinau International Airport – it is a small airport with great potential,” said Andrei Spinu. The Aviation Event conference brought together international professionals, world leaders in the aviation industry, experts, heads of airlines and airports in Europe, members of the European Parliament, representatives of financial institutions and the media from around the world.// 30.05.2024 — InfoMarket.
