Starting July 1, Moldova’s companies with annual sales of more than 500,000 lei are required to accept cashless payments in lei

This is provided for by amendments to the Law on Entrepreneurship and Enterprises previously adopted by parliament. They stipulate that economic agents (except for savings and loan associations and non-bank credit institutions) must ensure the acceptance of cashless payments in Moldovan lei (MDL) through payment service providers licensed by the National Bank of Moldova by July 1. This should be implemented in physical units (except for small retail chains) whose sales in the previous calendar year in wholesale and/or retail trade and/or from the provision of services using cash registers exceeded 500,000 lei. The innovation also applies to information service providers. These provisions do not apply if: payments in the specified units were made exclusively in non-cash form, except for those made by licensed banks; the specified units are located in villages (communes), except for those that are part of municipalities and cities. The State Tax Service noted that failure to comply with the aforementioned provisions of the Law on Entrepreneurship and Enterprises will result in a fine of between 4,000 and 6,000 lei for each case. The State Tax Service is responsible for monitoring and enforcing sanctions. // 01.07.2025 — InfoMarket
