The Public Services Agency has started accepting applications for the production of new-style identity cards (ID cards)

According to the previously adopted Government Decision, starting from April, a new document certifying the identity of a Moldovan citizen will be put into circulation. It is an identification card (ID card) with the size of 85,6X53,98 mm (corresponds to the size of a bank card). The document contains a standard set of data in Romanian and English, except for information on place of residence/temporary residence, as well as a set of electronic data (electronic signature and biometric data of the holder). The new document will allow citizens to use electronic services of the state more quickly and easily, as well as to sign documents, requests and declarations without visiting the offices of institutions. In the future, the scope of application of the ID card may expand. The first million documents will be issued free of charge by the Public Services Agency, noting that valid ID cards of previous samples can be used until their expiration date. During April it will be possible to make an ID card only for the maximum period of 20 days; the shortened period of document issuance will be available later. After the issuance of the first million documents, the cost of making an ID card for 20 working days will be 290 lei, and the cost of a temporary document - 100 lei. The shortest period of issuance will be on the day of application, the cost will be 4 times more than the standard one. The issuance of new ID cards is available to Moldovan citizens from the age of 14, but at the request of parents or guardians the document can be issued even earlier. The novelty is also the fact that the validity period of ID cards will now depend on the age of the holder. Thus, the document will be valid for 4 years - for children up to 7 years old, 7 years - for children from 7 to 14 years old, 10 years - for citizens from 14 to 70 years old, and after 70 years old the document becomes indefinite. // 02.04.2025 - InfoMarket.
