The 1.4 million euros twinning project “Strengthening the Capacity of the Moldovan Parliament and its Role in the EU Accession Process” launched
It is funded by the EU and implemented by a consortium of implementing partners led by the European Programs Implementation Service (EPIS) of the Greek Parliament. Other implementing agencies include the parliaments of Romania, Italy, Hungary and Austria. The main objective of the twinning project is to support Moldova's EU accession process. In particular, the project will ensure an efficient, transparent legislative process in the context of convergence with EU norms, as well as strengthen parliamentary oversight in the form of greater accountability of government decisions. The project consists of the following 3 components: improving the capacity of the Moldovan Parliament to analyze, draft and amend legislation in the context of EU approximation; more effective oversight of Government by Parliament; optimizing the internal procedures of Parliament and strengthening the institutional capacity building to effectively meet the increased legislative burden and ensure transparency. The project implementation period is until 2 February 2027. In the coming period, expert evaluation missions, seminars, workshops, study tours and internships will be organized. In addition, support will be provided for the development of legislation, strategies and implementation plans. According to the EU Ambassador to Moldova, Janis Mazeiks, over the next 24 months, this twinning project will contribute to strengthening parliamentary oversight, improving legislative procedures, as well as fostering a culture of inclusiveness and dialog, both within the institution itself and with other stakeholders. “This new project will provide the Moldovan Parliament with the necessary tools, expertise and structural improvements to effectively fulfill these critical functions. Given the complexity of the EU accession process, a strong and well-functioning parliament is essential to scrutinize legislation, ensure transparency and hold the executive accountable,” he said. // 28.02.2025 - InfoMarket
