Moldovan government will compensate for the increase in newspaper distribution tariffs in 2024 with 11 million lei.

Beneficiaries of the support mechanism will be national, regional or local publications that meet a number of conditions. These must be print media that have no branches/subsidiaries and are published by a legal entity registered in Moldova; that have been operating on the market for at least 2 years; that are published at least once a month with a circulation of at least 1,000 copies - if they are national publications and at least 500 copies - if they are local/regional publications. The share of local content in the media must be at least 75%. Media outlets that ensure transparency of ownership, editorial staff and circulation, provide data of the owner/editor, names of reporters who have signed and observe the Code of Ethics of Journalists of Moldova will be eligible for subsidies. They should be politically unbiased media outlets that promote democracy, human rights, and oppose corruption and misinformation. Such media outlets should have no debts to the budget, no unfulfilled contractual obligations, and which have not included the press distribution tariff in the subscription price. The assistance will be granted to media outlets that meet all the criteria on the basis of an application. A special council will decide on the granting of aid.
