
The government approved the reorganization of some universities and research institutes.
After public consultations, the State University of Physical Education and Sports (2.2 thousand) was excluded from the reorganization project - it is planned to be merged with the Stefan cel Mare Academy under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, for this a separate government decree will be prepared within six months. Also excluded from the project is the State University named after Gr. Tamblac in Taraclia. Thus, to the Pedagogical University named after I. Creanga, which has 3.5 thousand students, will be joined the State Tiraspol State University (2.5 thousand), as well as the Institute of Educational Sciences and the Institute of Lifelong Education. The Technical University of Moldova (7.3 thousand students) will include the State Agrarian University (3.5 thousand) and 3 research institutions - the Institute of Electronic Engineering and Nanotechnology named after D. Gitu, the Institute of Energy and the Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology (more than 120 employees). The largest enlargement is planned at the State University of Moldova (it has 9.5 thousand students), which will absorb the Academy of Public Administration (only the master's cycle - 825 students), as well as the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics named after Vladimir Andrunachievici, Institute of Applied Physics, Institute of Chemistry, Institute of Ecology and Geography, Institute of Geology and Seismology, Institute of Zoology, Institute of Legal, Political and Sociological Research, Institute of Physiology and Sanocreatology, Institute of Romanian Philology named after B.P. Hasdeu, Institute of History, Institute of Genetics, Physiology and Plant Protection, as well as the National Botanical Garden. A. Ciubotaru and the Scientific Library. A. Lupan (about 1 thousand scientists). According to the project, the Academy of Economic Knowledge (1.5 thousand students) will absorb the National Institute for Economic Research (81 employees), and the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts and the Institute of Cultural Heritage will be transferred to the Ministry of Culture (now under the Ministry of Education). As part of the project, about 6 thousand students of both cycles of study and doctoral students are planned to be transferred to absorbing universities by August 25 this year. As Minister of Education and Research Anatolie Topala noted, this reform is aimed at consolidating Moldovan universities, modernizing universities and improving the quality of research activities. The absorption of 4 universities will bring tax benefits to the state budget in the amount of more than 80 million lei in the next 2 years. Herewith, it is planned to allocate about 700 million lei for the development of the higher education system in Moldova.
