Granting the status of EU candidate to Moldova will not change the situation in the country overnight, but will give it more support from the EU on a difficult path - Maia Sandu.
Moldovan President said this in her address to the citizens, noting that these additional funds will be used to improve people's living conditions and create new opportunities for business development. "The status of candidate country gives us a clear direction for development, support along the way and, most importantly, hope. We are a small, vulnerable country, which will be safer in the family of the European Union, where we can count on the support of all members, large and small, and on the help of European institutions. Membership in the EU means integration with the European market, the largest and richest market in the world. Access to the EU market offers companies in our country significant opportunities to develop and grow in a competitive and fair environment with clear and respected rules. And for citizens, being close to the EU means guaranteeing their rights and freedoms and a better quality of life here at home. This is a success, above all, for you, the citizens. Despite all the difficulties, we have all shown that we value democracy, that we want a state governed by the rule of law, a society where the law is first and foremost. Thanks to the choices made in recent years and the solidarity we have all shown in moments of equilibrium, we have shown what our values are. Your generosity and mobilization have made Moldova known in the world first of all thanks to the good qualities of its people," the Moldovan head of state said. According to her, the project that Moldova is starting now, on its way to join the European Union, will take many years, but its success depends on all of us. "It's not my project, the project of the government or the parliament - it's the project of our generation, it's your project. And its success depends on all of us. We accept whatever political price we have to pay for the realization of this project. Our task is to do everything so that citizens can live in peace, stability, in a country that is developing and moving forward. Moldova's place is in the European family. Now we have an opportunity to change for the better the way things go in our country, to significantly improve the quality of life, the quality of services, the way of living in Moldova. Now we can fix and improve the relationship between the state and citizens, as well as the relationship between people. The success of these changes is not guaranteed. It depends on each of us, on our ability to work, on the determination of all citizens to make this great effort for a better future for each of us. And I believe we can do it.
