Moldova counts on the opening of the EU market for Moldovan fruits and other products, accession to the Single Euro Payment Area, acceptance of its mobile operators into the European roaming network.
This was stated by Moldovan President Maia Sandu after a meeting in Chisinau with the President of the European Council Charles Michel. She noted that the war in Ukraine has serious economic, social and humanitarian consequences for Moldova, and our country appreciates the assistance of the European Commission in the form of budget support programs offered to our country. Moldova also appreciates the assistance provided by the European Union to manage the flow of refugees in the form of grants, humanitarian donations and assistance packages worth about 13 million euros. At the same time, Maia Sandu stressed that Moldova also counts on the opening of the European market for Moldovan fruits and other products, which can no longer access markets in the east, closed because of the war. She said eliminating duties on Moldovan goods and expanding the categories of goods allowed on the European market would be a great help to our country's entrepreneurs affected by the war. "We also need permits to cross into the European Union for our freight carriers who can no longer use routes from the east. In this regard, we appreciate the willingness of some member states to provide us with these permits. We also look forward to supporting Moldova's accession to the Single Euro Payments Area and admission of Moldovan mobile operators to the European roaming network. Deeper integration with the European market will increase the resilience of our economy during the war," the Moldovan head of state said. She said that the European Union is a true friend of Moldova, and our friendship and cooperation is proved by time in many fields. Since 17 March, Moldova has been cooperating directly with the EU in border management - more than 70 European policemen from the Frontex mission have been working with their Moldovan colleagues at various border crossings. The European Border Monitoring Mission, EUBAM, continues its work, and on March 30 the EUROPOL team started a new mission in Moldova. "We appreciate the support provided by the European Union in strengthening the resilience of our country in the face of the information war. We have a very important energy dialogue that aims to strengthen our country's independence and energy efficiency. Connecting Moldova, along with Ukraine, to the continental European power grid ENTSO-E on March 16 is an important step in this direction. Moldova needs investment to revive its war-torn economy, reduce the impact of the pandemic and mitigate the energy crisis. We count on the Economic Recovery Program and the Eastern Partnership Investment Plan offered to Moldova in the context of our cooperation with the European Union. But we need peace in order to use all these opportunities," said President of Moldova. // 04.05.2022 - InfoMarket
