The government has approved a number of decisions for the transfer of land to the United States for the construction of a new building of the American embassy on the territory of the former Republican stadium in Chisinau.
In particular, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft ratification of an agreement with the US government on a site for the construction of a new building of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, and also approved a resolution on the paid transfer of a property with an area of 5.1814 hectares, located in the municipality of Chisinau, st. Tighina, 12 in the ownership of the United States, for the construction of the building of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova. This site will also be transferred from the list of property of the public sphere of the state to the list of property of the private sphere of the state. According to the MFAEI, an agreement with the US government on a site for the construction of a new building of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova was signed in Chisinau on July 12, 2019, and it provides for the right to acquire a land plot in Chisinau for the construction of a new building of the US Embassy in our country at a market price. It is agreed that the US government will cover the costs of acquiring a piece of land, as well as processing documents for ownership. At the same time, the Moldovan government will exempt the American side from paying national and municipal taxes and duties, with the exception of those that represent payments for specific services provided in connection with the purchase of land for the diplomatic mission. The Public Property Agency is authorized to provide a valuation of this land and submit a valuation report to the Working Group by a certified appraiser within 45 days from the date of signing the Memorandum of Understanding. After the completion of price negotiations, the Working Group will approve the price of the land, and the General Director of the Public Property Agency is authorized to sign with the United States on behalf of the government the documents necessary to conclude a contract for the sale of the land. As a mark of respect for the historic significance of the former Republican Stadium on the site, the United States will repair and restore the historic gates, entrances and facilities associated with it and make them accessible to the public, the Public Property Agency said. Moreover, the US intends to reserve part of the land for public park spaces, the design of which will be developed in collaboration with the Moldovan government and local design professionals. Also, the US and the Moldovan government will agree on a name for the park space, which will represent the mutual values of cooperation and friendly relations between countries, common ideals or goals, or another suitable name that the parties agree on. The United States will also receive the right to use part of the park space for art exhibitions, organizing cultural events, incl. erecting a statue or monument, or holding similar events.//20.04.2022 — InfoMarket.
