Moldovan government expects to unblock relations with the IMF as soon as possible and is waiting for the Fund's Mission in September to discuss a new financing program - Natalia Gavrilita stated.
Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita stated this while speaking on the air of one of the private TV channels. “We are expecting a mission from the International Monetary Fund in late September. By that time, we should be ready to present our approach to the draft state budget for 2022 and take on certain obligations. It is important for us that the new Program with the IMF is based on good governance, justice reform, effective management of state property and state finances,” Prime Minister said. Speaking about the likelihood that the IMF will oppose the increase of the minimum pension in Moldova to 2 thousand lei, Gavrilita said that the government will present its concept to the IMF experts and will negotiate with partners, counting on their understanding that the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) has received a strong mandate from citizens and must deliver on its promises. It should be noted that the restoration of external financing and the conclusion of a new Memorandum with the IMF is one of the priorities of the Gavrilita government. The government's program envisages, among other things, the resumption of the dialogue with the IMF with the aim of concluding a new Memorandum and securing external financing for the medium term. Earlier it was reported that the cost of a new three-year cooperation program between Moldova and the IMF could amount to $558 million, and the financial assistance allocated by the Fund will be used to revive the Moldovan economy, overcome the consequences of the pandemic, and also to carry out institutional reforms. However, the previous authorities did not fulfill one of the preconditions for the approval of the new Program with the IMF, which concerned the appointment by the parliament of three vice-presidents of the National Bank of Moldova. //10.08.2021 - InfoMarket.
