The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported that traditionally, the majority of goods were imported into the country by motor transport - 79.4% of the total volume. Maritime transport accounted for 3.8% of the total import volume, railroad - 2.9%, air - 2%, self-propelled import - 0.8%, mail - 0.1%, and the share of fixed transport installations (gas pipelines, electricity networks) - 11% of the total import volume. In particular, the volume of imports to Moldova of products from EU countries in the first 3 months of 2024, compared to the same period of 2023, decreased by 8.7% - to $1 billion 017.4 million, from CIS countries - decreased by 61.9% - to $88.4 million. The import of goods from other countries increased by 9.1% - to $1 billion 048.3 million. The share of EU countries in the total volume of Moldovan imports decreased from 48.28% to 47.23%, the share of CIS countries decreased - from 10.06% to 4.1%, and the share of other countries - increased from 41.65% to 48.66%. The top countries, which accounted for the largest volumes of Moldovan imports in January-March 2024 are: Ukraine (18.1% of total imports), Romania (15%), China (11%), Turkey (7.3%), Germany (7%), Italy (4.8%), Poland (3.9%), France (2.8%), Russia (2.7%), Hungary (2.1%), Spain and Czech Republic (1.9% each), USA (1.5%), Bulgaria, Japan and Austria (1.1% each), Netherlands, Belarus, Slovakia, Great Britain and India (1% each), Vietnam (0.8%). Analysis of the evolution of imports by country in the first 3 months in 2024, compared to the same period of 2023, shows an increase in imports to Moldova from Ukraine (+33.4%), UAE (17.6 times), Egypt (3.9 times), Poland (+14.9%), Spain (+35.3%), China (+3.8%), Czech Republic (+21.3%), Germany (+4, 3%), Vietnam (+45.5%), Japan (+17%), Sweden (+33.2%), South Korea (+24.2%), Great Britain (+13.6%), Bangladesh (+47.1%), Ireland (1.8 times), Iceland (2 times), Lithuania (+38.7%). At the same time, the volumes of imports to Moldova from the following countries decreased: from Russia (-60.7%), Greece (-82.3%), Romania (-11%), Kazakhstan (-95.1%), Turkey (-17.1%), India (-53.8%), Bulgaria (-47.9%), Azerbaijan (-90.1%), Hungary (-17.2%), Israel (-58.2%), Italy (-5%), Turkmenistan (-87.4%), Portugal (-37%), Georgia (-71.5%), France (-4.9%), Austria (-7.9%).
