
Imports to Moldova in January-February 2024, compared to the same period of 2023, decreased by 7.5%, amounting to $1 billion 375 million.
The National Bureau of Statistics reported that traditionally, the majority of goods were imported into the country by motor transport - 78% of the total volume. Railway transportation accounted for 3.4% of the total import volume, sea transportation - 3.3%, air transportation - 2.2%, self-propelled import - 0.6%, postal items - 0.1%, and the share of fixed transportation installations (gas pipelines, electric networks) - 12.4% of the total import volume. In particular, the volume of imports to Moldova of products from EU countries for 2 months in 2024, as compared to the same period of 2023, decreased by 9.2% - to $650.1 million, from CIS countries - decreased by 68.1% - to $52.03 million. The import of goods from other countries increased by 10.9% - to $672.9 million. The share of EU countries in the total volume of Moldovan imports decreased from 48.2% to 47.28%, the share of CIS countries decreased - from 10.99% to 3.78%, and the share of other countries - increased from 40.82% to 48.94%. The top countries that accounted for the largest volumes of Moldovan imports in January-February 2024, included: Ukraine (19.3% of total imports), Romania (16.1%), China (11.2%), Turkey (7%), Germany (6.6%), Italy (4.6%), Poland (3.7%), France (2.8%), Russia (2.4%), Hungary (2.2%), Czech Republic (1.9%), Spain (1.8%), USA (1.4%), Bulgaria (1.3%), Belarus and the Netherlands (1.1% each), Japan and Slovakia (1% each), UK, Austria and Vietnam (0.9% each). Analysis of the evolution of imports by country for 2 months of 2024, compared to the same period of 2023, shows an increase in imports to Moldova from Spain (+37%), Ukraine (+40,7%), Egypt (5 times), UAE (10.4 times), Germany (+7.2%), China (+3.9%), Poland (+12.9%), Czech Republic (+24.5%), Vietnam (1.6 times), Great Britain (+34%), France (+5.1%), Japan (+13.7%), Bangladesh (1.8 times), South Korea (+21.2%), Switzerland (21.2%), Ireland (1.9 times), the Netherlands (+8.2%), Sweden (+21.4%), Norway (+46.4%), Serbia (+20.2%), Belgium (+9.1%). At the same time, the volumes of imports to Moldova from the following countries decreased: from Russia (-70.3%), Greece (-88.7%), India (-78%), Romania (-9.9%), Kazakhstan (-94.8%), Turkey (-14.8%), Bulgaria (-41.8%), Azerbaijan (-91.8%), Hungary (-17.7%), Israel (-54.3%), Austria (-21%), Georgia (-84.4%), Portugal (-36.9%), Turkmenistan (-92.8%). In the structure of imports in January-February 2024, significant shares were occupied by the following groups of goods: gas and industrial products derived from gas (11.8%); oil, oil products and related products (11.3%); electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (7.5%); motor vehicles (6.9%); medicinal and pharmaceutical products (3.7%); vegetables and fruits (3.2%); yarn, fabrics, textiles and related products (3%); apparatus and equipment for telecommunications and for recording and reproduction of sound and images (2.9%); industrial machinery and apparatus for general purposes; parts and spare parts for these machines (2.6%); specialized machinery and appliances for specific industries (2.3%); essential oils, perfumes, toiletries, cosmetic goods (2.2%); processed metal products (2.3%); clothing and accessories (2.1%). // 16.04.2024 - InfoMarket.
