
Imports to Moldova in January-May 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, increased by 3.5%, totaling $3 billion 706.6 million.
The National Bureau of Statistics reported that traditionally, the majority of goods were imported into the country by motor transport - 76.1% of the total volume. Sea transport accounted for 7.5% of the total import volume, railroad - 4.5%, air transport - 1.7%, self-propelled import - 0.7%, postal items - 0.1%, and the share of fixed transport installations (gas pipelines, electric networks) - 9.4% of the total import volume. In particular, the volume of imports to Moldova of products from EU countries in January-May 2023, compared to the same period of 2022, increased by 11.3% - to $1 billion 791.4 million, from CIS countries - decreased by 22.4% - to $779.6 million. The import of goods from other countries increased by 17.2% - to $1 billion 135.6 million. The share of EU countries in the total volume of Moldovan imports increased from 44.92% to 48.33%, the share of CIS countries - decreased from 28.03% to 21.03%, and the share of other countries - increased from 27.05% to 30.64%. The top countries, which accounted for the largest volumes of Moldovan imports in the first 5 months of 2023, are as follows: Romania (15.6% of total imports), Ukraine (13.3%), China (10.3%), Turkey (8.5%), Germany (6.9%), Italy (5.1%), Russia (4.8%), Poland (3.3%), France (2.7%), India (2.4%), Hungary (2.2%), Greece (1.8%), Bulgaria (1.7%), Czech Republic (1.6%), Spain (1.4%), USA (1.3%), Kazakhstan (1.2%), Austria, Netherlands, Japan and Belarus (1% each), Slovakia (0.9%), United Kingdom (0.8%), Belgium (0.7%). The analysis of the evolution of imports by country in January-May 2023, compared to the same period of 2022, shows an increase in imports to Moldova from Ukraine (+58.6%), Turkey (+24.4%), Greece (4.4 times), China (+14.6%), Romania (+8.2%), Kazakhstan (6 times), Germany (+7.5%), Slovakia (1.7 times), Japan (1.6 times), Israel (2.5 times), Bulgaria (+26.3%), India (+10.7%), France (+9.2%), Czech Republic (+15.1%), Georgia (6.5 times), Vietnam (+39.9%), Ecuador (+57%), Azerbaijan (1.7 times), Egypt (2.8 times), Belgium (+23.4%), Poland (+4%), Turkmenistan (1.8 times), Spain (+8.3%), Austria (+10.3%), Hungary (+4%), Sweden (+21.2%), Portugal (+20.3%), Northern Macedonia (1.8 times), Morocco (2 times). At the same time, the imports to Moldova from the following countries have decreased: Russian Federation (-71.2%), Belarus (-24.9%), USA (-17.1%), South Korea (-16.4%), Uzbekistan (-49.7%), Pakistan (-37.3%), Kyrgyzstan (-66%). In the structure of imports for the first 5 months of 2023 significant shares accounted for the following groups of goods: oil, oil products and related goods (16.1%); gas and industrial products derived from gas (9.3%); electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (7.1%); motor vehicles (6.2%); yarn, fabrics, textiles and related goods (3.4%), medicinal and pharmaceutical goods (3.4%); vegetables and fruits (3%); general purpose industrial machinery and apparatus; parts and spare parts for these machines (2.6%); specialized machinery and appliances for specific industries (2.4%); apparatus and equipment for telecommunications and for the recording and reproduction of sound and images (2.3%); clothing and accessories (2.2%); mineral or chemical fertilizers (2.2%); cereals and their products (1.9%). //17.07.2023 - InfoMarket.
