Moldova intends to revise the Free Trade Agreement with Turkey in order to obtain a number of new privileges for the export of Moldovan agricultural products.
Deputy Prime Minister, Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba stated this, noting that this was discussed during a telephone conversation with Turkey's new Trade Minister Omer Bolat. "We have an ambitious goal to advance in the negotiations on the revision of Moldova's Free Trade Agreement with Turkey. This initiative will open new opportunities for our businesses, promote trade and strengthen economic cooperation. During the discussions, we also touched upon the expansion of trade and economic relations between our countries, as well as the attraction of new Turkish investments in Moldova," Alaiba said. Earlier, it was reported that Moldova is negotiating with Turkey on new concessions within the free trade agreement in order to liberalize trade in agricultural products. In particular, Moldova's representatives asked the Turkish side to consider granting preferences for the export to the Turkish market of Moldovan agricultural goods, including: wines, nuts, fruits, dried fruits, processed vegetables and fruits, juices and other drinks, oil, cereals, meat and meat products, cheese, ice-cream, chocolate, baked goods, tobacco. Moldovan-Turkish trade relations are regulated by the Free Trade Agreement, which entered into force in 2016. The volume of Moldova's foreign trade with Turkey in 2022 amounted to $966.16 million and increased by 12.7% compared to 2021. At the same time, in 2022, Turkey ranked 4th among Moldova's main trading partners with a share of 7.1% of the total trade volume. // 11.07.2023 - InfoMarket.
