Quotas for tariff-free export of plums to the EU by Moldova will go up from 15 thousand to 40 thousand tons, grapes - from 20 thousand to 58 thousand tons, apples - from 40 thousand to 80 thousand tons.
At the same time, quotas for tariff-free exports of Moldovan tomatoes to the EU will go up from two thousand to four thousand tons, garlic - from 220 to 440 tons, cherries - from 1.5 thousand to 3 thousand tons, and grape juice - from 0.5 thousand to 1 thousand tons. This is provided for by the European Commission's regulation of the European Parliament and the EU Council on temporary trade liberalization measures, which supplements the trade privileges applicable to Moldovan products under the Association Agreement between the European Union and Moldova. The European Commission proposed this regulation to temporarily improve market access for the remaining 7 products from Moldova, which are still subject to tariff quotas when entering the EU, to demonstrate EU solidarity and help Moldova cope with the loss of its main markets and transit hubs for key agricultural products as a result of the war in Ukraine. Specifically, the European Commission's proposal foresees that Moldova will export larger volumes of duty-free agricultural products to the EU during the year: plums, grapes, apples, tomatoes, garlic, cherries and grape juice, which could reach European markets in volumes twice as large as the current ones. The value of potential tariff-free volumes will now be about 55 million euros, including plums for about 10 million euros and table grapes for 27 million euros. // 10.06.2022 - InfoMarket.
