Moldovan farmers will receive support to increase the sustainability of the agri-food sector under a EUR 8.5 million project funded by the European Union and the Czech Republic
As noted in a statement by the EU Delegation to Moldova, in particular, the Team Europe: Sustainable Agri-Food Systems initiative, aimed at increasing the sustainability of the agri-food sector in Moldova, will support farmers in overcoming external circumstances and challenges related to climate change. The project will introduce innovative solutions and best European practices to modernize agriculture and strengthen rural communities. By addressing vulnerabilities in the country's agri-food sector, the project will focus on the introduction of innovative agricultural technologies, business development and institutional capacity building processes. It provides for the introduction of proven European practices, such as laboratory soil testing and the safe use of biocidal products, as well as the creation of a digital Registry of Organic Farming, the development of cooperation and exchange of experience between experts, farms and the industry. As noted by Ina Butucel, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, only such a comprehensive and multifaceted approach will be able to respond to the needs of those who contribute to the development of the sector - farmers, so that they become more sustainable, integrate into value chains and, at the same time, strengthen their capabilities and digitalize the sector. Through the implementation of innovations and international cooperation, the initiative lays the foundations for a more sustainable, competitive and resilient agri-food sector in Moldova. "The Team Europe: Sustainable Agri-Food Systems initiative confirms the EU's commitment to provide significant support to farmers and businesses so that they become more competitive and resilient, adapt to climate change, implement sustainable practices, enter new markets and prepare for integration into the EU single market," said Adam Grodzicki, Deputy Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Moldova. The launch of the Sustainable Agri-Food Systems project brought together over 40 representatives of national and international organisations, highlighting the interest in how this €8.5 million investment can transform Moldova’s agri-food sector, making it stronger, more resilient and more viable in the future. The Team Europe – Sustainable Agri-Food Systems initiative is funded by the European Union and the Czech Republic and implemented by the Czech Development Agency, Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova and the Latvian Agricultural Advisory and Training Centre. The initiative will be implemented over a period of 4 years, until June 2029. // 12.09.2025 — InfoMarket
