In 2024, Moldova produced about 5 thousand tons of honey, and more than 4.1 thousand tons have already been exported - the Ministry of Agriculture
The agricultural department shared this info on May 20, which is Bee Day in Moldova. As noted, bees occupy a special place in Moldova, as around 265 thousand bee colonies are an active part of the rural economy. Abroad, confidence in Moldovan honey is growing, but domestic consumption of this product remains below national potential, at less than 600 grams per capita. “We can change this. We can find a place for local honey in every home in Moldova. Stimulating domestic consumption is a strategic goal alongside expanding foreign markets,” said the Ministry of Agriculture. The agricultural department emphasized that it allocates significant financial resources annually through AIPA to support the development of beekeeping. In 2024, 67 applications were approved for subsidies totaling 55.56 million lei through the advance payment mechanism, and 61 applications totaling 9.75 million lei were submitted through the post-investment payment mechanism. About 80% of applications for advance subsidies come from the beekeeping sector, confirming the dynamism and increased interest of beekeepers in modernization. The investments are aimed at purchasing beehives, bee colonies, technological equipment, honey extractors, melting machines, queen bees, and other equipment that will help modernize apiaries, increase yields, and strengthen export opportunities. // 20.05.2025 — InfoMarket
